yawn.jpgI was recently asked to put together some screen prints from the Nielsen Norman Group’s Intranet Design Annual 2006 report of the ten best intranets.  The screen prints were to be used by the team brainstorming features for our intranet homepage redesign.  Normally, this activity would result in an increase to my pulse rate.  Each time I read the report, I am inspired by the assorted innovative and usable designs presented in the report.

This time it was different.  I had read the report several months earlier and was admittedly inspired by what I saw.  But in the year that has passed since the 10 best intranets were introduced, the next generation of web technologies has hit the mainstream.  Last year’s innovative homepage design is now yesterday’s punch cards. 

The next report will be published shortly.  I am anxious to see how this year’s winners are using the new technologies.  Meanwhile, I am excited about our homepage redesign plans.  One thing’s for sure.  It won’t be our father’s intranet.
